Do you struggle with substance abuse, or know a loved one who struggles with addiction? Substance abuse is stressful for every individual involved. Once you’ve acknowledged that you have a problem, seeking help is the next step toward a healthy recovery.
One of the ways that Fifth Street Counseling Center helps people on their journey toward recovery is with Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs).
Whether you’ve voluntarily committed to an IOP, or you’ve been court-ordered, these programs allow you to continue with your everyday life while also getting the specialized help that you and your family deserve.
What Is An Intensive Outpatient Program?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a treatment program that is provided on an outpatient basis for individuals who are struggling with addiction, eating disorders, depression, and other needs that don’t require around-the-clock monitoring and detoxification. An IOP is less-intensive than an inpatient care program because it enables the user to carry on less restricted with their normal day-to-day activities.
IOPs are specially created to establish coping strategies, support systems, and help with relapse. They last an average of 14 weeks, depending on the needs of the individual.
What Are The Benefits Of An IOP?
Measurable Milestones
IOPs help individuals meet their own goals by setting measurable milestones.
With milestones, you can monitor and achieve your progress effectively. For most IOPs, as these milestones are met, the commitment that is required from each individual to participate in the program will decrease.
Affordability
IOPs are generally more affordable than inpatient care programs because they do not involve the additional inpatient care costs like facility overhead and staff services. Emergency services can be expensive, even with health coverage. If you are not able to afford inpatient care an IOP is the next best option. In many cases, IOPs are covered if you have medical insurance.
If you have any questions regarding your health care coverage, contact Fifth Street Counseling Center. We are a Medicaid and in-network provider for most major insurance plans.
Flexibility
Because it is outpatient-based, individuals can maintain their daily responsibilities while receiving treatment or continue to go to work. IOP requires only a few hours a day for treatment, leaving plenty of time for a normal daily routine.
Care and Support
It is important to receive support and care throughout the recovery process.
In an IOP, not only will the ones close to you learn support mechanisms to help influence your recovery, but you will also be supported by staff and peers that have had their own experiences with addiction. They will offer insight, understanding, and most importantly, empathy throughout your journey.
Stay Connected
IOPs often connect individuals with others who are going through the same type of struggle. Individuals seeking treatment are supported by one another during the program and continue this support even once the treatment program has been completed.
Maintaining lines of communication and support is vital in the recovery process as it statistically reduces the chances of relapse.
Effective, Evidenced-Based Treatment
Evidence has shown the effectiveness of IOP programs regarding staying sober and reducing the number of relapses. In the mental health arena, IOPs are well-known as effective and something worth investing time in.
